Phasmophobia is not a game many would think of when it comes to speedruns, but these players show that it is possible to race through investigations.
For those who want a bit of a challenge from their games, there is always the option to try a speed run where, as the name suggests, the goal is to complete a game as quickly as possible. With Summer Games Done Quick 2022 underway, there are plenty of opportunities for those interested to see some of the best runs from a wide variety of titles, all for a good cause too. This year there was an interesting attempt where four players decided to speedrun Phasmophobia.
Usually runs are performed by one person or perhaps several people racing against each other in a single player game. However, it’s quite unusual for players to speedrun a multiplayer game, especially something like Phasmophobia, a game that’s often about luck. However, four people took up the challenge during this year’s SGDQ, all trying to figure out the identity of the ghost in each of the game’s six houses, including the slightly larger farms. This got even trickier as they all had to maintain their vocal coordination while also commenting on the event.
The video is now on YouTube, and it’s pretty insane to watch. Runners Brossentia, NPC, FlannelKat and Peace Egg were able to get through all six maps in a time of 29 minutes. That’s about five minutes per card. The speed with which they uncover evidence, move through the houses, and finally come to a conclusion is so impressive that one of the scariest video games in recent history barely gets a chance to get scared. one of the players. A combination of teamwork and in-depth knowledge of the game makes it a race against time rather than a slow horror investigation, and it’s fun to watch.
Phasmophobia is not only one of the scariest games released in the past year, it was also one of the highest-rated games on Steam. It currently has a “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on the PC store. The game has become a staple for many streamers, and its unique take on the genre has helped its developer, Kinetic Games, become an overnight success.
There are a lot of tough games when it comes to speedrunning, such as Doom and Bloodborne, but it takes a certain amount of cooperation to give it a try in a multiplayer setting. As Brossentia said at the beginning, it wasn’t about guessing what the ghost was, but using real evidence and deduction to succeed.
Phasmophobia is available on PC.
