The Sims 4 Has a Last of Us Easter Egg

After months of rumors, Sony and Naughty Dog have confirmed The last of us part 1 at the Summer Festival. Launching in September on PS5 and later for PC, players will be able to relive the story of Joel and Ellie with several enhanced elements.

Fans still have some questions about The Last of Us Part 1, such as if there are any serious revisions, like maybe Abby’s appearance from TLOU 2, but they’ll know the latest in a few months. Interestingly enough, with it on everyone’s mind, a fan came across and pointed to a reference to the franchise in The Sims 4.

The Sims 4 recently released its Werewolf expansion, but it’s the same as always (just with more content). Fans can live their Sim’s life, raise children, climb their career ladder, build a house and decorate it. Twitter user Katarina supposedly came across a plant called Jerry’s Reeds while decorating their home.

The text accompanying the plant refers to doctors at St. Mary’s Hospital who want to combat fungal infections with parasites. As many know, this location appears at the end of The Last of Us, and the Doctor – also Abby’s father – is called Jerry. What really seals the deal on this Easter egg, though, is the last line: “It never delivered much, other than the ability to attract fireflies.”

By referring to the Fireflies faction of The Last of Us, the hospital, and Abby’s father Jerry, there’s no question that this Easter egg slipped in on purpose at some point. It’s not sure when, as there’s so much in The Sims 4 that it’s hard to keep track of when things are added, but it’s a nice nod for fans of both franchises if they’ve never noticed it before.

It’s worth noting, though, that The Sims 4 added two Final Fantasy 14 Easter eggs to the Werewolf expansion, showing just how aware the developer is of other franchises. These include the Racked Teak-a Greatshelves, which refers to the Raktika Greatwood Shadowbringers Zone, as well as the Seventh Confectioner’s Calamity Firewood Rack, which refers to the Seventh Umbral Calamity and Vanet. As The Sims 4 continues to expand and developer Maxis eventually moves to The Sims 5, it will be interesting to see what other Easter egg fans discover over the years.

The last of us part 1 will be out September 2 on PS5. A PC version is in development.
