James Webb Telescope Image Looks Like Skyrim Menu

In recent days, new images of space captured by the James Webb telescope have surfaced online. It is designed to capture images and light 100 times fainter than that of the Hubble telescope, resulting in more beautiful images that, scientists say, are full of important data. It will be interesting to see how this affects astronomy, but the images have appeared in another community: Skyrim.

Skyrim is easily one of the most recognizable games of all time, and even those outside the community are likely to hear and know about it, if nothing else. It’s easy to see Skyrim in just about anything, be it game design or whatever, but at least one image captured by the James Webb telescope appears to have been taken straight from the game.

As many share online, perhaps one of the most beautiful images is that of the Carina Nebula. It is about 8,500 light-years from Earth and is part of the Carina-Sagittarius Arm of the Milky Way Galaxy. Looking at this image, it’s easy to relate it to Skyrim’s level-up menu. As many fans know, leveling up in Skyrim brings them to a menu of constellations, all with different colors and all.

It should be noted that the constellations in Skyrim often form things like anvil or magical symbols, so it’s not an exact 1:1 comparison. But the colors and design of this Skyrim level-up menu unmistakably resemble the image of the Carina Nebula. It should be noted that this menu has been compared to the Hubble telescope images in the past, so this isn’t entirely surprising.

It’s not known if Bethesda intentionally used the Hubble Telescope images as inspiration for this higher-level menu, but either way, the Hubble Telescope didn’t capture these refined images. If nothing else, it seems that more than 10 years later, Bethesda got away with enough iridescence to compare Skyrim to these Webb telescope images.

Bethesda is now hard at work on its first new IP in years, Starfield, a sci-fi space-set adventure. It’s no secret that Bethesda has wanted to make a space travel Sci-Fi game for years, so any inspiration here wouldn’t be surprising. Still, it will be interesting to see how much advances in real astronomy and science are used in Starfield. A player recently reversed the design of the map of Starfield using real stars, but either way, the Webb telescope images have stunned many, including Skyrim fans.

Skyrim is now available on all major platforms.
